Kayaking on local rivers and saluting the queen just another day for our scouts

We have a great bunch of scouts that are a pleasure to be with. The majority of the troop is comprised of younger members and, although scouts may be between 10 and 14 years old, most of our scouts are 12 and under. We have been a mixed troop for many years, the first in this part of the world, so we have both boys and girls in our troop.

The list of achievements for our scouts this year is very impressive. Have a look at the gallery of pictures, or the newspages for what is happening, Our diary page will give you an idea of our programme.

Scouting is all about discovery and adventure and so our activities try to embody this.

Scouting has always been associated with camping and we are no different. We have camped at our hut, at activity centres and backwoods ( with little or no facilities).

Other activities are more diverse. Our scouts may find themselves swimming one week, go carting or evening trooping the colour with the queen the next.

Making fires and cooking things is always popular. We have cookouts at the hut and in around the area. I can't promise that everything is edible that is cooked but we will have fun trying.

First aid and climbing both indoors and on real rocks are regular events for us. Surprisingly our scouts prefer to abseil over climbing! (that's coming down rather than going up to you and me)

It seems everyone likes to get wet so our scouts have opportunities to raft, sail, kayak and swim.

For a taste of our activities click on the camping, activities or climbing links.

We have three patrols with kingfisher, kestrel, and eagle patrols. We have a patrol leaders council to plan and execute troop meetings. Scouts is all about developing skills and independence. Scouts encourages both girls and boys to reach their potential thorugh action rather than calssroom study.
