Survival camp 2009
What a great weekend. Thanks to everyone that made this year even better than last year. This year we were joined by scouts and leaders from Groombridge and Rotherfield which improved the event considerably. Thanks to the leaders especially our Sharon, Colin and Paul.

Our scouts did a 'bang up' job this year and their skills are getting better and better. The challenge was to build a shelter that was off the ground to survive wild animals attack (ha ha).
Everyone was only given ropes and a plastic sheet; the rest was down to them. As the pictures show the shelters were great and all the scouts slept out in near zero temperatures. Some of our leaders resorted to tents the others slept out in their own shelters.
Our campfire was interesting but the late night wide game proved a real hit especially with the leaders that collided with trees!
With sessions on building shelters, backwoods cooking, knives, axes and saws the weekend slipped away very quickly and soon it was time to clear up and go. However a short hike saw us down at the river and the magnetic properties of running water proved too much for some of the scouts and in they went. Thank goodness it was just before going home!
