VENI,VIDI but no VICI this time for our teams.

Spirits were high for coaches Dan, Steve and Paul as they took their teams of cubs and scouts to the annual distrcit football tournament at Rotherfield.

We hoped that the cubs would do well since they were the smallest (stature) wise team last year since most of them were only just cubs and now have more experience. Despite some of our other players competing in tournaments elsewhere enough cubs turned up to make two teams. Baloo (Dan) spread his team talents across both teams, an interesting strategy and highlighted the sportsmanship of the pack rather than setting out 'gung ho' to win at all costs.

A great turnout of cubs and parents ensured that both teams were supported. They both did well but were just off the mark since in the tournament only winning games scored points and a draw resulted in no points at all.

Nobody should be singled out since they all played well. However, James S. could not help but impress in goal and Daniel seemed to be all over the pitch in every game.

The tournament was eventually won by a strong team fielded by Mayfield. Thanks to 1st Rotherfield for hositng the tournament

For those of you without a degree in latin Veni vidi vici means I came I saw I conquered.

For the scouts our mixed team proved that they could outrun many of the older boys teams fielded by other groups. A lot of individual skills were shown by our heroes cheered on by Coach Paul. With most of our scouts still under 12 playing against 13/14 year old scouts it looks very promising for next year since they were not run off the field and closely fought all the games.
