So what's this all about - adults in scouting? Surely scouts is a kids club. Well, actually we are committed to the development of young people but how can we manage this without adult support.
Historically most of our leaders and helpers were themselves in the scout or guide movement at some time but that is changing now. More importantly legislation is insisting that we are better prepared and aware of such issues as child protection, bullying and appropriate supervision. this means that more than ever we need adult help to run scout groups.
So is this a sneaky way of getting more leaders. Most families complain of two things. Firstly that they do not spend time together and secondly that modern families work all the time.
This is where we really can score. Your local scout group (that's us) organises activities all year round that encompass family values, teamwork and a spirit of adventure. Who would not like to be involved. We think that it is important that good links are made between adults and young people so that they do not get the view that only experts and paid professionals are the only people that can deliver great activities, sense of value, and skills. Being based in the local community we can do more since we support community spirit.
